Oil Rinsing Natural Hair

Is oil rinsing natural hair a good idea? Yes and this post will show you how. Oil rinsing is a technique used to lock moisture into your hair while in the process of washing and conditioning. Oil rinsing is very similar to the LOC method, except it is only done in the shower.

It is usually done with one of three oils and these are coconut, olive or avocado. These oils are the best choice because they penetrate the hair shaft.

This technique will best suit you, if you find yourself having persistently dry or damaged hair and/or you're just looking for a way to retain moisture. Here are the basic steps in regards to oil rinsing your hair.

The first step in your oil rinsing journey is choosing your favorite oil. As mentioned before, coconut, olive or avocado oil are three popular choices but another that is worth mentioning is jojoba oil.

After choosing your oil, start out with about half a cup and warm the oil slightly, as you do not want it to burn your scalp! You may have to measure out more or less depending on how thick and long your hair is. Coat your wet hair with the oil making sure that every region is saturated.

Once you've successfully covered all of your hair with the oil, proceed to rinse your hair. Make sure to rinse for only about 30 seconds with warm water, any longer could defeat the oil rinsing process altogether.

After you've rinsed your hair, make sure that you liberally apply your favorite conditioner and then rinse with cool water while you detangle.

Last but not least, make sure to apply some leave-in conditioner, seal up those ends and it's best to wear your hair in a "heat-free" style like the Bantu knots that Blac Chyna is sporting.

Oil rinsing is an excellent aspect to add to your hair care regimen and has been compared to a hot oil treatment, but in many ways, oil rinsing is way better.
